Childhood obesity in middle of a 'boom'

THE number of obese children under five has boomed in the past 25 years, rising from 31 million in 1990 to 41 million last year.

A World Health Organisation report released yesterday showed the biggest rise in childhood obesity was in developing countries.

The number of obese or overweight children under five doubled in the developing world from 7.5 million in 1990 to 15.5 million last year and almost half of those children were in Asia.
