More than 750 people killed in Egypt's clashes

MORE than 750 people have been killed in Egypt as successive violent clashes unravelled in the capital, Cairo on Sunday.

Reports by the Independent and AFP confirmed the death toll from four days of violence had reached 750 on Sunday.

The rapidly unravelling situation included a clash at an Egyptian mosque between the security forces and pro-Morsi supporters.

A tally of the death toll held by AFP said more than 1000 people had been killed since late June.

Foreign Minister Bob Carr on Friday called for "restraint" from both sides of the conflict, recommending Australians do not travel to Egypt.
