Bonnie Berry is on top of the world
Cricket: Bonnie Berry (pictured) is an upcoming young cricket talent who is taking the game by storm.
Capricornia were the Queensland Cricket 13 years Schoolgirls State Champions after an exhilarating grand final against Wide Bay, held in Mackay in late October.
Bonnie, who plays for the Emerald Brothers White under 13s, took a career best 7/19 off 6.5 overs to destroy the strong Wide Bay batting line up who had been setting the standard all week.
Bonnie has been playing cricket for the Emerald Brothers White for a total of four years and said it was something she truly enjoyed.
"My brother wanted to play cricket and mum asked me if I wanted to give it a try and I said yeah sure,” she said. "I've loved the sport ever since.”
Bonnie said the best part about playing cricket was all the different types of people you got to meet.
"I've made a lot of new friends while playing cricket.”
She said more teenage girls should take up a sport like cricket as it might lead to more opportunities down the track.
Bonnie's mum Carmel Berry said she was very proud of her daughter's achievements.
"I'm very proud that she went there and blitzed the other team,” Mrs Berry said.
"Without all those wickets taken Wide Bay might have walked all over us.
"She enjoys playing with the other girls who are all there to do the same thing she is there to do and she has made some lovely friends.
"It's good to see a young girl from a little bush town go out there and make those teams.”
