Ashley Madison data leak reveals Coffs as a cheating capital

COFFS Harbour is the most adulterous city on the Mid North and North Coast, according to the number of residents signed up to cheating website Ashley Madison.

New data has revealed 1919 people in the Coffs Harbour area are signed up to the Ashley Madison site, which markets itself as a "dating destination for casual encounters, married dating, discreet encounters and extramarital affairs".

The figures mean almost 4.2% of Coffs Harbour's population is registered on the site, putting the postcode as the highest in Northern NSW for members of the website as percentage of population.

The data is based on the location and credit card data, but doesn't account for people who listed Coffs Harbour as their location because it's their home city as opposed to their actual suburb.

The data - obtained by Fairfax - follows recent hacking incidents of the website's information, which saw data from tens of millions of users leaked online.

Information, including names, emails and credit card details has begun to be published, including an apparent 737 people with Australian government email addresses.

Some people whose details were disclosed denied they had ever visited the site or said they had been signed up as a prank.

Although people can easily use fake addresses, there are incentives to use an address close to where you live or work, as the site uses locations to pair them with other users in their area.

It's not known how many of the 1,919 Coffs Harbour accounts belonged to active users.

Around Australia, the highest concentration of accounts were registered to Sydney, Lavender Bay, Canberra and Melbourne.
