Finn’s fight for life an inspiration

FINN Smith has shocked Brisbane surgeons with his remarkable progress and zest for life.

Since being diagnosed with meningococcal more than a month ago, the 14-month-old has undergone several amputations at Royal Brisbane Hospital in his battle against the infectious disease.

Little Finn has had his right hand removed, as well as his left leg below the knee and parts of his left hand. On Sunday, he is set to have his right foot amputated in what should be his last major operation.

"He's been remarkable," Finn's mum Sarah told the Daily yesterday.

"He's a happy, happy little boy and all the doctors and surgeons are really happy.

"They all said they didn't think they've seen a little kid come out of what he has and still smile.

"He's shocking them all with how well he's doing."

Much of Finn's happiness is a credit to his parents Sarah and Jason, who treat their little treasure to adventures around the hospital.

"His pram is his happy place," Sarah said. "We have a play in the room and as soon as he gets antsy, we get him in the pram and go wandering. He loves going up and down in the lift, seeing everyone and saying hello. He loves being out and around people.''

Sarah and Jason have been by his side every step of the way, spurred on by love, prayers and messages of support from around the world.
