Geno still sticks with Cowboys

FORMER Bronco and Origin great Gene Miles said he backed his decision that the North Queensland Cowboys would make a top four finish in this year's NRL finals.

Thus proving Miles's faith in the team, after they failed to score a try when they played against the Titans last weekend.

"Let's just hope they have their worst performance out of the way early in the piece; it wasn't a pleasing result and they will really have to step it up when they play for the Broncos on Saturday," Miles said.

"I don't think they will play that badly again.

"I'm pretty sure they will give Broncos one hell of a run for their money."

When talking about the Broncos he mentioned the team was faring well without star five-eighth Darren Lockyer.

"There is a transition process they have to go through," he said.

"Obviously they have had a win under their belt so this issue might not come up as much as it might do.

"But if they lose a couple of games the issue will raise its head again."

Miles said he was excited to hear this weekend's Queensland Cup would be given more exposure through a new broadcasting deal.

"With the new TV rights obviously great exposure to them, it's the best feeder system in Australia," he said.

"And you see so many player transitions from country football into the NRL.

"You know I think the independent funding will do them good ... with more funding coming back to grassroots footy."
