Green Moon's upcoming plans keeping the stallion busy
MELBOURNE Cup winner Green Moon will be set for the $1 million Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 9.
The six-year-old is likely to have just two starts in his autumn campaign, according to Sky Racing's Andrew Bensley.
The horse is scheduled to return to work at the showpiece Macedon Lodge property of multi-millionaire owner Lloyd Williams outside Melbourne.
Plans are for Green Moon to resume in the $500,000 Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 23, before stepping up to the Australian Cup.
The stallion had just one run last autumn, taking out the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on March 10 before being tipped out for the spring.
The Williams stable will follow a similar path taken by its former star Zipping which resumed in the the C.F.
Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield before winning the Australian Cup at his second up run in 2010.
If he makes it to the Australian Cup, Green Moon would potentially face a four-pronged assault from OTI Racing, which counts former Australian cricket star Simon O'Donnell as one its directors.
Fellow director Terry Henderson said OTI would aim 2012 Australian Cup winner Manighar, Brambles, My Quest For Peace and Prairie Star at the race.
