Gympie RSL cops social media aggro
THE Gympie RSL sub branch claims to have been the target of intense social media outrage over a misinterpreted photograph involving a visit to Gympie by new LNP leader Deb Frecklington.
Sub branch president Peter Maddocks said a photo of the visit had been wrongly taken to indicate political partisanship by the RSL.
The photo, published in The Gympie Times, showed a visit to the sub branch office by Gympie region MPs, Mrs Frecklington from the Nanango electorate (which now includes Woolooga, Kilkivan and Goomeri) and Gympie MP Tony Perrett.
It recorded an occasion when Mr Perrett presented the sub branch with a new Queensland flag, Mr Maddocks said.
Mrs Frecklington visited a number of Gympie institutions and businesses, including The Gympie Times, during that visit, hosted by Mr Perrett.
He said the sub branch did not take sides in politics and sought to maintain good relations with all political organisations and local representatives.
The second online item, which Mr Maddocks said prompted a strong online reaction, reported her appointment as the LNP's first female leader, with the picture being used to illustrate her Gympie region connection, which may not yet have become clear in the public mind after the redistribution.
