Hiku double keeps Sea Eagles on top
MANLY'S precision backline was once again too good for its opposition, with winger Peta Hiku the beneficiary as the Sea Eagles ran out 22-12 winners over the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium yesterday.
Hiku scored two tries in the entertaining contest, coming in the 30th and 65th minute.
His first one gave the visitors a 10-4 lead, with the Kiwi international scoring in spectacular fashion.
Kieran Foran, Brett Stewart and Jamie Lyon played lead-up roles, before Hiku planted the ball down with one hand in the right corner, with the rest of his body suspended in mid air.
He then got his double in the second half with another fine finish out wide after involvement again from Stewart, as well as Daly Cherry-Evans and Tom Symonds.
Cherry-Evans then grabbed one of his own inside the final 10 minutes to secure the victory, after dummying and running to the line from close range.
The Warriors got a consolation try in the 74th minute, Simon Mannering diving on a short Chad Townsend grubber.
The New Zealand team gave the visitors a fright early with a typically-blockbusting try to Konrad Hurrell in just the second minute.
But the first-placed Manly asserted its class, bouncing back with a four-pointer to Cheyse Blair in the 19th minute.
