House Rules teams get second chance to avoid elimination

THE House Rules teams thought they were on the chopping block last night.

But instead of one team being sent home in the reality show's first elimination of the season, the six teams were given a second chance to impress the judges and improve on their scores.

Tonight they will compete in a 24-hour fix-up challenge.

Each team will return to their own homes to change the zone with which they are the most disappointed.

In last night's house reveal, Victorians Bronik and Corrine were the runaway winners.

The couple scored two perfect 10's from judges Wendy Moore and Joe Snell and with Karina and Brian's scores added in they were the top-scoring team of the week.

The judges were particularly impressed with the perfect main bathroom and the  bedroom they designed for Karina and Brian's teenage son.

"Commissioning a street artist to create a feature wall in Daniel's bedroom was an incredibly brave thing to do, but boy did it pay off," Moore said.

It was an emotional reveal for homeowners Karina and Brian, whose three children were unofficial judges of the renovations.

"You haven't just impressed Karina and I. You've made our kids feel really special so thank you for that," Brian said.

"This is better than what we thought we could do with the house.

"We are the luckiest family in Australia right now I reckon."

But Karina and Brian weren't won over by the terracotta paint colour in the living room, unlike the judges.

Father and daughter Steve and Tiana were the lowest scoring team of the week. They renovated the kitchen of Karina and Brian's Geraldton home and the bedroom of their teenage daughter.

"You can't just jam such a powerful design element into a room where nothing is complimentary," Joe Snell said.

"The light cool blue against copper created a very uncomfortable clash."

While host Johanna Griggs did not reveal the entire overall leader board, she did identify Cassie and Matt as the top team, followed by Bronik and Corrine and Ben and Danielle.
