LNP tweet mocks protesting farmers
QUEENSLAND'S Liberal National Party leader Deb Frecklington has defended her party's commitment to farmers, after a tweet mocking them.
A group of farmers rallied outside Queensland Parliament House on Monday to highlight their concerns about the Adani coal mine, to which the LNP's official account tweeted "What do these people farm? Soy lattes?"
Asked today whether that was appropriate, Ms Frecklington said she wasn't aware of the tweet and would look into the matter.
"I won't be making any comment in relation to the official twitter page, I'll have to check that," Ms Frecklington told reporters.
"Obviously the LNP are the only party that supports rural and regional Queensland and farmers."
Katter's Australian Party MP Robbie Katter, who represents the regional electorate of Traeger centred on Mount Isa, said a lot of farmers had issues with resource exploration impacting on farmland.
"I think it's quite insensitive to be casting them off, because I know personally there are a handful out there who are pretty ticked off about mining development," Mr Katter told reporters.
"I think there's a lot of rehearsed lines that come out of the major parties they're not proud of, and that perhaps is one of them."
