Massive $500,000 drug and cash seizure by highway patrol

ALMOST $300,000 in cash and drugs believed to be 'Ice' have been seized on the Pacific Highway north of Woolgoolga overnight after Traffic and Highway Patrol officers stopped and searched a car.

Officers attached to Coffs Clarence Local Area Command were conducting speed enforcement duties on the highway at Glenugie when they detected a car travelling south, allegedly at high speed.

Police will allege they recorded the Toyota Camry as being driven at 158kph in what is a 100kph zone.

The vehicle was stopped and police spoke with the driver, a 29-year-old man from Hong Kong.

He was issued with a traffic infringement notice for speeding.

A vehicle search was then conducted during which police will allege they found $290,000 cash and methyl amphetamine (Ice) with an estimated potential street value of $218,000.

The driver and his passenger, a 27-year-old man also from Hong Kong, were arrested and taken to Grafton Police Station.

Both men were charged with supplying an indictable quantity of a prohibited drug and knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime.

They were refused bail to appear in Grafton Local Court on Monday.
