Newsboys and Peter Furler unite for 40 city tour

ONE of Australia's most successful music exports, former Sunshine Coast band Newsboys, are reuniting with founder Peter Furler for a 40-city US tour that promises to showcase 30 years of hits under one roof.

The Grammy-nominated band, which has sold more than eight million units, will welcome the former lead singer back into the fold for the Newsboys United Tour.

Furler, formerly of Mooloolaba, left Newsboys in 2009 to take a break from a gruelling 150 show a year schedule and pursue a solo career.

"I'm stoked to reunite with the Newsboys," said Furler. "It's going to be brilliant to jam with the lads once again."

Newsboys has since been headed by frontman Michael Tait, formerly of DC Talk, along with former Sunshine Coast drummer Duncan Phillips, keyboard player Jeff Frankenstein and guitar player Jody Davis.

In the new United tour, Newsboys will be joined on stage by singer, songwriter and guitarist Phil Joel, of New Zealand, who has also pursued a solo career.

The "Newsboys United Tour" will feature Word Worship recording artist Zealand, which is founded and fronted by Joel.

The tour will kick off in February and include Los Angeles, Houston, Minneapolis, Dallas and Orlando.

Regular presales are slated to begin December 15, with general ticket sales on December 18.

"We're so excited for Peter and Phil to join us on the road next year," said Newsboys' Michael Tait.

"Taking the stage with two men who indelibly shaped the history of this band will be an unforgettable experience for us all. We can't wait to share these special moments with our fans as well."

Phil Joel said he was also looking forward to the tour.

"The timing and heart behind this tour feels so right and I'm pumped for Newsboys fans both past and present to join us!"

During Furler's tenure, Newsboys earned five Gold recordings and released hits such as "Shine," "Breakfast" and "He Reigns."

As Newsboys' bass player, Phil Joel was featured on multiple albums and sang lead on the group's hit single "Entertaining Angels."

Since his departure, Joel has had seven recordings as well as 2015's acclaimed Word Worship set, Zealand Worship - The EP.

Described as one of the most influential bands in Christian music history, Newsboys have amassed eight Gold certifications (500,000 sales), 33 #1 radio hits, four GRAMMY nominations, two American Music Award nominations and multiple Dove Awards.

Newsboys' signature songs include "We Believe," "He Reigns," "Miracles" "Born Again" and their Platinum-certified mega hit, "God's Not Dead."

The latter inspired one of the most popular Christian film franchises of all time, PureFlix's "God's Not Dead" and "God's Not Dead 2," both of which included appearances by the band.
