Panthers trounce Cowboys
The Middlemount Panthers started the season with a bang when they defeated the Emerald Cowboys 78 -12.
The Panthers new halves Mitch Wyatte, two tries, and Joel Duffy, three tries, led the team from one side of the field to the other and also cut inroads in the Cowboys' defence when they wanted.
Ryan Hansell was on fire from the start and playing at centre he had room to move and he did that by scoring two tries.
The Panthers two front rowers Joe Toatof and Brendon Hoskins led from the front letting the backs have the ball out wide.
There were a lot of long range tries for the Panthers.
Young winger Mike Dyson was the Panthers' Player of the Match, scoring five tries off good line running and being on the end of the back line.
The team was relentless and pushed the Cowboys all the way.
The Cowboys tried hard and to its credit kept trying all game to score some points and they came in the second half with tries to Logan Tipene and Alex Cutts.
Corey Butler tried hard all game, showing glimpses of good play.
He will get better as he plays more games.
Front Rower Phil Bullivant who was Man of the Match for the Cowboys.
He hit the ball up all day making those valuable yards.
Andrew Doyle worked hard around the ruck directing play but they were out gunned by a better team.
Cowboys will learn from this game and I can see that the Panthers will be a force this year.
Two old heads for the Panthers are still having good games Steven Henderson and Jason Randell as well as Les Healey from the Cowboys.
I can see a good year for the league if other teams can match the Panthers.
