Queensland Labor promises 2500 teachers

A LABOR government will hire an extra 2500 teachers if elected - more than the LNP's promised 1600 - but the opposition still has not announced how it will pay for its promises.

Meanwhile the LNP announced if re-elected the party will use money from privatising electricity and port assets to increase rail services to the Sunshine Coast.

Premier Campbell Newman announced the Sunshine Coast rail line would be duplicated - providing an extra 150 trains per week to the area. However, he could not say how many homes the $532 million project would resume.

Labor leader Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the $139 million, over three year, commitment to new teachers in Townsville this morning.

She said she would announce how Labor would fund their promises "in our own time".
