Racing to rev up a notch

RACING will kick into gear tomorrow for the first official Australian Karting Association club meet at the new Central Highlands race facility.

Open to all AKA licensed drivers, the meet is set to attract kart competitors from throughout Central Queensland and beyond.

Racing classes include cadet, rookie, junior national light and heavy, Queensland sportsman light, heavy and super heavy and the ever popular TaG light and heavy categories.

Emerald Kart Club vice president Dean Davies said this weekend's racing fixture will form part of the club's monthly meeting program, with club points and trophies on offer.

They are also planning to host the first round of the CQ Karting Series at the track later this year.

The club has a current member base of around 65 and is always on the lookout for more, particularly in the junior racing divisions.

Practice will start 8am tomorrow at the track, located near the Ag-Grow field site, with racing underway by 9am. Spectator entry is free with canteen facilities available.
