Teacher accused of grabbing student bottom to defend charge

UPDATED REPORT, 4.21PM: A SENIOR science teacher, who spent a night behind bars for allegedly grabbing the bottom of a female student, will defend the charges, a Sydney court has heard.

The 67-year-old's family gathered in the Blacktown Local Court to support him on Wednesday as he appeared via video link from jail.

Detectives from the child abuse squad arrested the man on Tuesday after a 12-year-old student reported she had been indecently assaulted on school grounds last week.

According to the Herald, the two incidents in question involved the teacher allegedly "grabbing" the girl on the bottom and "standing against" her.

The man's defence lawyer denied the allegations on his behalf.

Outside court, his son told reporters "there is no way he would have done something like this" and vowed his family would "fight this all the way to the end".
