Toddler run over by brother in "tragic accident"

A TODDLER was seriously injured yesterday when her brother ran over her in a "tragic quad bike accident" at a Eungella property.

A RACQ CQ Rescue spokeswoman said the rescue helicopter flew 120 nautical miles (222km), landing on the cattle property near Broken River about 5.15pm and then transferring the injured one-year-old girl to Mackay Base Hospital.

The spokeswoman said it was believed the accident happened just after 4pm.

The girl was standing behind a quad bike on the property when her older brother accidentally put the vehicle in gear and reversed over her, she said.

The toddler, who injured her pelvis, was in a stable condition last night at 6.35, and was required to undergo scans and further testing in hospital.

The rescue helicopter, with a flying trauma team including a doctor and intensive care paramedic aboard, was on the ground at the property for about 50 minutes while the toddler was stabilised and prepared for transport to the hospital.
