Victorious CH claim 47th Battalion honours

RUGBY LEAGUE: Central Highlands women's side harvested the crops yesterday, planted two years prior by taking out the 47th Battalion Shield.

Last year's campaign wiped out by the Sunshine Coast, this year's yielded the fruit.

In the final, the ladies line speed, controlled halves and brute strength wore down a tough Rockhampton Rustlers 26-8.

After the heartbreak of last season, coach Jay Denman was ecstatic.

"Our preparation was not ideal but the girls were focused and we came to Yeppoon with a job to do and we have done it," the Blackwater Crushers man said.

"The girls set their minds on this and achieved it. Honestly we could have played in Antarctica and we would have done the same thing.

"Last year was a heartbreaker for a lot of the girls and that is why they are back and have put the hard yards in all season."

Clermont's Elle Stitt, Carly Bell and Tegan Rolfe shone right across the carnival, while Blackwater's Mariah Storch and Emerald's Kiri Sampson impressed.

The ladies remained undefeated across the tournament, defeating Bundaberg 18-6 in game one and Gladstone 24-4 in the second.

Denman prayed their efforts would be rewarded with higher honours.

"Hopefully the dominance we showed across the whole tournament will will repaid," he said.

"Juanita McDonald and Carly were fantastic, our entire front row, our halves, everyone.

"Elle is just unstoppable. She is a truck, a fridge on legs.

"Our forwards laid a great platform for our speed out wide to shine. But our defence won it."
