Wedding plans collapse after car crashes into dining area
A COUPLE'S perfect day has been thrown into chaos after a car crashed into a pergola out the front of a Mooloolaba cafe where staff had been setting up for their wedding breakfast.
The incident happened about 7am out the front of Cracked Pepper on the corner of Mooloolaba Esplanade and Venning Street.
A staff member, who had been in the dining area setting up, said it was quite a shake up to witness.
"Literally we'd only just moved out of there about 10 seconds before it happened,” he said.
"I'd got to the front door of the cafe, turned around and seen it all happen.
"It (the car) came flying through the intersection and crossed over the cement island and hit the bollards and went straight into the dining area we'd just been setting up.”
Employees were quick to work, setting up a new spot for the couple to enjoy their wedding breakfast.
A police media spokesman said initial reports state the male driver had run a red light before crashing into the pergola.
Two police crews with fire and ambulance crews attended the scene and the driver was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
No charges have been made as yet.
The car has been removed from the scene and an after-hours Sunshine Coast Council worker is still on scene acessing the damage for safety.
